Last night I needed to take some new tablets. The dosage was stated on the packet but could I read it? Could I buggery. It was in a microscopic font. My magnifying glass, of course, wasn't in this house.

What do you think or feel about Marc and Eddy Verbessem's deaths?

A blogger on WordPress tells us that today is World Braille Day. I've never learned to read Braille and I don't recall having seen anybody reading or writing it, but from that blog post I've learned that Braille is useful to many people. Today the sad news came that Eric Sykes has died. Like everybody who grew up in Britain, I remember his work fondly. But I had no idea that he was almost deaf and that he became almost blind.

Lots of news coverage about Chen Guangcheng this week. He keeps being referred to as a 'blind Chinese activist'. This is one version of Chen's story, presenting his disability as the driving force behind his political work.

We love a little cripspiration don't we? That'll be why the current Main Stories page of The Week features Trish Vickers and Jack Widdowson. I'm happy for both these people and for those who help them. I'm sure few readers will dare to admit that these two heartwarming cases could be overshadowed by the nasty tales other people could tell about ( Read more... )
